What an InBody Scan Actually Tells You (And Why We Give Them Unlimited)
The bathroom scale is one number, and it hides almost everything that matters. It can’t tell the difference between muscle and fat, and it bounces around with water, food, and time of day. That’s why people who are making real progress sometimes think they’re stuck.
An InBody scan solves that. It shows you what your body is actually made of, so you can see the progress the scale misses. Here’s what it measures and how to read it.
What an InBody scan measures
An InBody scan breaks your weight down into parts instead of lumping it into one number. The big three to watch are your skeletal muscle mass, your body fat, and your body fat percentage. It also shows how muscle is distributed across your arms, legs, and torso, and gives you a read on hydration.
The scan itself takes under a minute. You step on, hold the handles, and it does the rest. What you walk away with is a clear picture of where you stand and what’s changing over time.
Why the scale lies and the InBody doesn’t
Say you train hard for two months, build four pounds of muscle, and lose four pounds of fat. The scale shows zero change, and you feel like nothing happened. But your body is leaner, stronger, and healthier. The InBody catches all of that. The scale catches none of it.
This is exactly the situation we described in why the scale won’t budge but your clothes fit better. Body recomposition is real progress, and you need the right tool to see it.
How to actually read your results
Don’t obsess over any single scan. One reading is a snapshot, and daily fluctuations are normal. The value comes from the trend over weeks and months.
Focus on two numbers moving in the right direction. You want skeletal muscle mass going up or holding steady, and body fat going down. When those two move together, you’re recomposing, which is the goal for most people whether they want to lose fat, build muscle, or both.
Why we make them unlimited
A lot of gyms charge for InBody scans or ration them out. We include them unlimited with every membership, and there’s a reason for that.
When you can see real data on what your training and nutrition are doing, you stay motivated through the weeks when the scale is being stubborn. It keeps you focused on the right things instead of chasing a number that doesn’t tell the whole story. It also lets your coach adjust your plan based on what your body is actually doing, not on guesses.
That fits how we coach. You show up, follow the program, and let us handle the thinking. The InBody is one more way we take the guesswork out. If you want the bigger picture on how our programming works, read up on the 5 workout types.
Frequently asked questions
How often should I get an InBody scan?
Every few weeks is plenty. That’s often enough to see a real trend without getting caught up in daily noise. Since ours are unlimited, you can scan on whatever rhythm keeps you motivated.
Is the InBody accurate?
It’s very good for tracking change over time, which is what matters most. For the most consistent readings, scan under similar conditions each time, like morning and before eating.
Do I need to prep for a scan?
For the cleanest comparison, try to scan at a similar time of day and hydration level each time. Beyond that, just step on and go.
Are InBody scans really included?
Yes. Unlimited scans come with your membership at both our Redmond and Sammamish gyms. No extra charge, no rationing.
