Strength Training for Desk Workers in Redmond: Undo What Sitting All Day Does

Small group strength training session for desk workers in Redmond

If you spend your workday at a desk in Redmond, your body has quietly adapted to it. Eight or nine hours of sitting, then a drive home, then the couch. The hips get tight, the upper back rounds forward, and the energy that used to carry you through the evening is gone by six. None of that is a character flaw. It is what sitting all day does to a body, and the good news is that it responds just as fast to the opposite.

What sitting all day actually does

When you sit for hours, your hip flexors shorten and your glutes switch off. Your shoulders creep forward over a keyboard and the muscles across your upper back get long and weak. Over months and years, that shows up as a cranky lower back, a stiff neck, and that heavy, foggy feeling in the afternoon.

Stretching helps a little, but it does not fix the real issue, which is that the muscles meant to hold you upright have stopped doing their job. The fix is to make them strong again. That is what strength training is for.

Why strength training beats another cardio habit

Plenty of desk workers try to fix it with a run or a spin class, and those are fine for your heart. But they do not rebuild the posture and the strength you lost sitting. Pulling movements wake up the upper back and pull your shoulders where they belong. Squats and hinges turn the glutes back on and take pressure off the lower back. Carrying heavy things teaches your core to brace the way it should all day.

You do not need six days a week to get there. Three coached sessions is enough to feel the difference, and we explain why in is three days a week really enough.

What coached training looks like at Sasquatch

At our Redmond and Sammamish gyms, you are not dropped into a room of machines to figure it out alone. Your training runs across five kinds of work: Build for heavy compound lifts, Grind for muscular endurance, Skill for technique, Sprint for power, and Move for cardio and functional strength. You can see how they fit together in the five types of workouts at Sasquatch.

You track your own numbers so progress is obvious, and a coach is there to correct your form and push you past the point where you would normally stop. If you want a closer look at how a session actually runs, we wrote about what coached training in Sammamish looks like.

Close to the Redmond tech corridor

Our Redmond gym is an easy stop before or after work for people on the east side of the lake, and our Sammamish gym is a short drive from Redmond, Bellevue, and the surrounding neighborhoods. If getting to a gym is the hard part, remote coaching is available anywhere in the US, so you can train at home or in a hotel and still have a coach building the plan and checking your form.

Common questions

I have not trained in years. Is that a problem?
No. Most people who walk in have been sitting for a decade. The plan starts where you are and builds from there.

Will this help my lower back?
Usually, yes. A lot of desk-related back pain comes from weak glutes and a core that has stopped bracing. Strengthening both tends to take pressure off the spine. If you have a diagnosed injury, loop in your doctor first.

I only have time before or after work. Does that work?
That is how most members train. Three sessions a week fits around a full workday, and remote coaching gives you even more flexibility.

Do I need to know what I am doing?
Not at all. The coaching is the point. You bring the effort and we handle the plan and the form.
