Getting Strong for Your Wedding: A Plan for the Months Before You Say I Do

There is a photo coming that you will have on the wall for the rest of your life. It makes sense that you want to look and feel your best in it. The good news is you have time to do this the right way, without starving yourself or living on a treadmill in the final weeks.
The couples who look their best on the day are almost never the ones who crash diet in the last month. They are the ones who put in a couple of months of steady, coached strength work and showed up lean, confident, and not exhausted.
Why the crash diet backfires
Cutting your food way down for a few weeks will drop some weight, but a lot of it is muscle and water. You end up smaller but softer, lower on energy, and running on empty for the most demanding social weekend of your life. Not the look or the feeling you want.
Strength training flips that. By building and keeping muscle while you lose fat, you get the lean, toned shape people actually mean when they say they want to look good in the dress or the suit. Your arms, shoulders, and back fill out your outfit the way you pictured.
Start with the time you actually have
If your wedding is three or four months out, you are in a great spot. That is enough time to make a visible difference and build habits that stick past the honeymoon. If you only have six or eight weeks, you can still do a lot, as long as you are smart about it and skip the gimmicks.
You do not need to train every day. Three focused sessions a week is plenty to change how you look and feel. If you are wondering whether that is really enough, we laid out the case for training three days a week.
What the training actually looks like
At Sasquatch, your plan is built around a mix of lifting styles so you get strong, lean, and conditioned without burning out. Heavy compound lifts build the shape. Muscular endurance and conditioning work keep your energy up and your waist moving. A coach guides every session, corrects your form, and adjusts the plan as you get stronger. If you want to see how the pieces fit, here are the five types of workouts we use.
You track your own numbers, your coach pushes you, and you get an InBody scan whenever you want so you can see muscle going up and fat coming down instead of chasing a single number on the scale.
Train together or on your own
Plenty of couples do this side by side, and it is a fun way to spend the lead up to the wedding. But you do not have to. One of you can train while the other sits it out, and that is fine.
We coach in person at our Redmond and Sammamish gyms, a short drive from most of the Eastside, and we also coach fully remote. So if your partner lives in another city during the engagement, or you are planning a destination wedding from out of state, you can both be on the same program from wherever you are.
When to start
The honest answer is now. Results from strength training build over weeks, not days, and the earlier you start the more relaxed the final stretch feels. If you want a realistic timeline, we wrote about how long it takes to see results.
Frequently asked questions
How far out should I start training for my wedding?
Three to four months is ideal. It gives you time for real, visible change and takes the pressure off the final weeks. Even six to eight weeks can make a difference if you train smart.
Will lifting weights make me bulky for the photos?
No. Strength training builds the lean, toned look most people are after. Getting genuinely bulky takes years of specific training and eating. What you will see is better shape and more definition.
Can my fiance and I train together?
Absolutely, and many couples love it. You can also train separately if that works better. The program adapts to each of you.
What if we live in different cities right now?
Our remote coaching means you can both follow the same program from anywhere in the country, with a coach checking in the whole way.
Do I have to change my diet too?
Nutrition makes a big difference for how you look on the day. Our weekly coaching tiers include nutrition so the eating and the training work together.
