Three Sneaky Ways to Get More Protein

Protein intake has been a hot topic of debate over the last few decades, with the recommended daily protein intake as reported by Dietary Reference Intake Report being around 0.8g of protein per Kg of bodyweight, and the average nutritionist recommending closer to 1g of protein per pound of bodyweight (more than double!).

No matter where you want to fall on that spectrum, odds are you are consuming far less protein than you should to keep your muscle mass as you age, support your vital organs, maintain and repair tissue, and even regulate your hormones.

So, how do you get more protein in your diet without having to eat more chicken?

Here are my 3 sneaky ways to get more protein in your diet:

Protein in your coffee

The single easiest way I have found to get an extra 10-25g of protein without even thinking about it is to use my protein powder as creamer in my coffee. If I’m feeling like a latte, I’ll use vanilla protein powder. If I’m feelin like a mocha? I’ll use chocolate protein powder. The key is to use a high quality protein powder like Sasquatch Supplements to make sure it doesn’t grainy or curtle. I like to mix my protein with about 2-4 oz of warm almond milk and then pour in the coffee. That makes the best consistency. Foamy and delicious.

For sweeter coffee, 1 whole scoop is great. For less sweet, ½ a scoop.

Fat Free Greek Yogurt

The holy grail of hitting your protein numbers for the day. Fat free greek yogurt is super high in protein and can be used to substitute sour cream (without doing anything to it) in tacos, chili or anything else. If you add some sweetener to it like stevia, all of a sudden it can substitute any type of yogurt in a parfait or a baking recipe. It is as diverse as it is delicious, and a ¾ cup serving has around 18g of protein, about as much protein as half of a good sized chicken breast.

Collagen Peptides

I love the Vital Proteins brand. It’s tasteless, mixes super easily in everything, and because it’s collagen, it's amazing for your nails, hair and joints, outside of having a good amount of protein in it as well. Mix it in your coffee, water, tea, really anything that you’re drinking and you’ll be one step closer to your protein goal.

Well there you have it! 3 stupidly simple ways to add more protein in your diet, without ever breaking a sweat.

Now get out there and build yourself some stronger muscles!
